IT lesson on 6/1 Jan for Sec 403
ReplyDeletea) IT lesson to encourage independent learning.
b) It was planned to be a IT lesson during the maths period. However, pupils had to go to the poly visit on that day. Instead of having it on another day, it was given as homework. Pupil were recommended a weblink which was a powerpoint lesson on Cumulative Frequency and Box-Whisker Plot. Pupils were given worksheet to explain some of the terms they need to understand in the topic.
Some of the challenges faced are
1) pupils are not confident having to obtain knowledge from other sources other than the teacher.
2) When asked to explain the terms, they copied from the slides. Some who attempted to answer in their own words, did not get it right, though it was good attempt.
3) I went through these mistakes made in another lesson with the pupils.
Personal Reflection
1) I think this is a good stragety to train the pupils to find out about the topics before the start of the lesson. This would encourage independent learning and they can access to knowledge through internet. It would save the lesson time on practices and problem solving.
2) They can also go through the slides at their own pace.

Lesson on Fractions for Sec 121 on 1st Feb.
ReplyDeleteApproach/Strategy:
Activity on shading parts to understand the concept of multiplication and division of fractions. Activity was done as a whole class.
Challenges Faced
a) Pupils knew how to used calculator to work out the answers. It seems they have been using the calculator in the primary school. They were not keen to do the activity as they felt that they already knew how to do fractions. They only showed working on the calculation.
The lesson could be improved by making it a group work in which each group be made to present their work on the shading. No calculations to be done.
Personal Reflection
It is quite encouraging to see quite a number of 121 pupils showing working in calculating fractions. They are able to do without using the calculator as well. However, they need to know concept in order to do word problems. On the other hand, there are some of them who are unable to do and depend too much on calculators.
