  1. Recently, Rigor and Relevance framework is quite prevalent in our school, across the various IP and non-IP departments. Everyone is talking about this newly introduced framework. The Rigor and Relevance framework is a tool developed to examine curriculum, instruction and assessment. The R&R framework has four quadrants. Each is labeled with a term that characterizes the learning or student performance at that level.

A group of lower sec teachers gathered and we used Rigor & Relevance as a tool to guide us in developing instruction and assessment for teaching mathematics to Sec 201 and 211.

When the team plans and designs the R&R lessons, we kept in mind the need to include the aspect of greater relevance for the students. Having greater relevance for the students in lessons means they understand how the mathematics concepts taught have application in their daily life. It also means the students have the opportunity to construct their own understanding rather than just learn “the facts”. In addition to learn content and skills, the students will be given the time to think about how they want to learn.
